OFS ANNOUNCES THE AVAILABILITY OF ALLWAVE® FLEX ZWP FIBER IN ITS PREMISES CABLES, JUMPERS AND PRECONNECTORIZED CABLES

AllWave FLEX ZWP Fiber Offers Improved Micro and Macrobending as well as Enhanced Connectorization / Splicing Performance

BICSI Winter Conference, Orlando, FL, Booth 1111, January 22, 2007 – The Cable and Connectivity Divisions of OFS announced today that their Premises Cables, Jumpers, and Preconnectorized Cables are now available featuring AllWave FLEX Zero Water Peak (ZWP) single-mode fiber, the first zero water peak G.652D fiber to offer 5 times better bending performance plus 50% additional bandwidth than conventional single-mode fibers.

AllWave FLEX ZWP fiber maintains very low bending loss at small diameters and has stable and permanent low loss, due to OFS’ patented ZWP fiber manufacturing process, which eliminates hydrogen-aging defects. Fully compliant with ITU-T G.652.D and the new G.657.A, it exhibits full spectrum performance across the wavelengths from 1260 to 1625 nm, unsurpassed geometry control for the lowest splice and connector loss, as well as ultra-low and stable Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) for maximum reach and bandwidth. It is fully compatible with AllWave ZWP fiber and other leading conventional single-mode fiber types.

“The macrobending and microbending loss improvements of AllWave FLEX ZWP fiber offer remarkable advantages for demanding access, enterprise and central office applications, compared to standard single-mode fibers” said Peter Weimann, Senior Product and R&D Engineer at OFS. “The products featuring AllWave FLEX ZWP fiber are more protected against excessive loss resulting from cable flexing, pulling, crushing, as well as from bending due to routing within enclosures and cabinets,” Dr. Weimann added.

The Premises Cables available with AllWave FLEX ZWP fiber include cordages, ACCUMAX® distribution cable, MiniCord® breakout cable, indoor/outdoor cables, and buffered fiber. The change in the fiber does not affect end product specifications in any way, nor their forms, fits, or functions.
