As leader in optical innovations, we seek a Development Engineer with extensive experience in the field of fiber optics including hands-on experience building optical sub-assemblies.
The successful candidate will take the results of table top experiments in fiber amplifiers and lasers and build prototypes for testing by external customers. Applicants will troubleshoot optical issues and have a working knowledge of electrical systems and thermal management in a packaged device A key function will be developing manufacturing-friendly designs and assisting with transfer to manufacturing of new fiber-based products, by developing bills of materials for prototypes, working with the manufacturing team to develop production process steps and writing process documentation and work instructions.
Key qualifications include:
BS, MS or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics or applied science
3-5 years’ experience in the lasers or fiber optics industry
Ability to function as Project Manager, pull together a team of engineers and track milestones against a project plan
Prior experience in working with fiber optic components is a significant plus
Experience in manufacturing environment a significant plus
Excellent problem-solving ability
Proficient in thermal analysis software is a plus
Proficient in LabVIEW is a plus
3D Solid Modeling (SolidWorks preferred) a plus
Constructive working relationships with diverse groups and individuals
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel
Maintain discretion when working with confidential and proprietary information
Strict adherence to Company safety policies and procedures
Conform to all aspects of OFS’ “Standards of Conduct” document
