As electricity demands increase and necessitate higher power levels of transmission, it becomes necessary to more fully understand the temperature profile of the transmission lines for the sake of safety and reliability.  Fiber optic Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) enable this monitoring.

OFS graded-index, multimode optical fiber cables enable Raman DTS interrogation measurements up to a span of 15 km. These products are compatible with traditional Raman-based DTS interrogators, and the coating and cable constructions can be used in applications up to 125 ˚C.

For interrogation at lengths up to 60 km, our single-mode optical fibers are compatible with Brillouin detection systems and offer a single Brillouin peak profile in a range of products well-suited for continuous operation at temperatures as high as 125 ˚C.
