Outside Plant Fiber Optic Cable

Fortex™ 2DT Loose Tube Cablemeet-the-new-fortex 2dt-cable

By incorporating 200-micron optical fiber, this cable literally doubles the fiber count in the cable buffer tubes, significantly increasing fiber density.
The reduced outer diameter of the Fortex 2DT Cable improves utilization of duct and subducts. In addition, cables with smaller outer diameters allow longer continuous cable reel lengths, which may result in fewer splices needed. Over long distances, the potential cost savings created by reduced splicing can be substantial.
The lighter weight of the Fortex 2DT Cable can also help to lower cable pulling tensions. This reduction can result in (1) increased cable pulling lengths; (2) lower installation costs by allowing longer distances between pulling handholes; and (3) faster installation speeds.
In the case of aerial deployments, a lighter weight cable can also decrease loads on poles. Density – The Challenges for Tomorrow’s Networks

Join OFS Applications Engeneer, Mark Boxer, and learn about how the pace of change in the communications world continues to increase. Starting over 30 years ago, the first wave of fiber deployments built long-distance fiber networks across the country. Successive waves of fiber network extensions continue to bring fiber to homes, businesses, and 4G wireless sites. The next wave will continue the trend of merging wired and wireless networks together in preparation for 5G wireless and beyond, and will require fiber to be even more ubiquitous, potentially to small cell sites no more than a football field apart. In order to prepare for these networks, new fibers, cables, and components are being developed today to prepare for these networks. An overarching theme of these networks is they will require significant amounts of fiber in smaller spaces in order to deliver the massive amounts of bandwidth to power tomorrow’s networks. This presentation will survey today’s and tomorrow’s communications trends and translate these trends into real-world network solutions, highlighting new fiber-based tools that will ultimately be used to build these networks.
